MGI Consulting’s 5-Step Process for Visa Application Services

Step 1: Information Intake and Visa Type Determination

We check the passport, which must be valid for more than 6 months, and identify the purpose of entry. We then advise on the most suitable visa application method, such as e-visa, stamped visa at an embassy, or visa on arrival.

Step 2: Legal Dossier Preparation

We collect the required documents, including passport, ID photos, flight details, and hotel information. For business visas, MGI guides the sponsoring company in signing and stamping the sponsorship forms, including NA2 and NA16.

Step 3: Application Submission to the Immigration Department

We submit the application online or directly to the Immigration Department and pay the required state fees in accordance with regulations.

Step 4: Result Collection

We receive the result within 3 to 5 working days for regular applications, or arrange urgent processing where required.

For e-visas, we send the PDF file to the client for printing.

For stamped visas, we send the entry approval letter so the client can complete the visa stamping procedure.

Step 5: Entry Guidance and After-Service Support

We guide clients on procedures at the port of entry, including carrying photos and the stamping fee in cash in USD where required. We also advise on temporary residence declaration requirements with the local police after entry.

Frequently Asked Questions About Visa Procedures

Q1: What is the difference between a visa and a temporary residence card?

A visa is a short-term entry permit, usually valid for less than one year. A temporary residence card, also known as a TRC, is a long-term residence document valid from 1 to 5 years and can replace a visa, allowing multiple entries and exits without applying for a new visa each time. To obtain a temporary residence card, foreigners usually need to have the correct visa purpose first, such as work, investment, or dependent visa.

Q2: Can I use a tourist visa for probationary work?

Absolutely not. A tourist visa, also known as a DL visa, is only for sightseeing and leisure purposes. Any work activity, whether paid or unpaid, while using a tourist visa is a violation of the law. Companies should apply for a business visa, such as DN1, or a work visa for their personnel.

Q3: What is the maximum validity of a Vietnam e-visa?

Under the latest 2025 regulations, a Vietnam e-visa may be valid for up to 90 days and may allow single or multiple entries. It applies to citizens of all countries and territories.

Q4: What do I need to prepare for a visa on arrival?

You must have a printed entry approval letter issued by the Immigration Department. Upon arrival at the airport, you need to present your original passport, approval letter, Form NA1, two 4×6 cm photos, and the visa stamping fee, usually USD 25 for a single-entry visa.

Q5: Who is eligible for a 5-year visa exemption certificate?

This certificate is available to Vietnamese people residing overseas and foreigners who are spouses or children of Vietnamese citizens or overseas Vietnamese. It is valid for 5 years, and each entry allows a temporary stay of up to 180 days.

Q6: What should I do if my visa is overstayed?

The foreigner must report to the Immigration Department, pay the administrative penalty, and apply for an extension where permitted or complete the exit procedure. The penalty increases depending on the length of the overstay. In serious or long-term overstay cases, the foreigner may be forced to exit Vietnam and may be subject to a temporary entry ban.
